Summer Daze
A mark of the forward thinking of Karamfiles Builders is their placing as a finalist for the 'Most Innovative use of Steel in a Building Project' at the 2006 HIA-ANZ South West Housing Awards.
The home, designed by Sam Karamfiles for the owners, took into consideration the family needs and requirements.
Sam developed a concept that not only pleased the owners, but also won industry acclaim.
The home design takes advantage of the natural views over the Walpole Inlet and beyond, while keeping in mind the client's wish for a holiday/retirement home that is individual in design and low maintenance.
The result is a four bedroom, two bathroom home with big living areas and room layouts designed for specific purposes.
The upper floor consists of a large modern kitchen overlooking an open living area with cathedral ceilings and large windows taking in the water views. The impressive master suite is suituated at the front of the home.
Over the years, Sam has incorporated many procedures and products to enhance his skills and knowledge of the building trade and home design.
This particular award category outlines guidelines to encourage builders to think out of the square and utilise different approaches to home construction using unusual materials or traditional materials in a brave new way.
Under industry judging guidelines, finalists must demonstrate an 'innovative use of steel' both internally and externally.
This particular project used a structual steel external skeleton, internal timber wall and roof framing, clad with colorbond and an extensive use of glass.
